Susan Pritchard - Biography

SUSAN PRITCHARD

PAINTING THE RURAL LIFE

Susan Pritchard grew up in Wendell, Idaho. Her initial interest in art was sparked by copying an illustrated book of Bible characters as a young teenager, which began a life-long journey of self-study and practice. After graduating from Boise State University with a degree in Business, Susan rekindled her childhood passion for art while working for the Boise Art Museum. The exposure to various artistic styles in the exhibits at the museum inspired her to pursue her own creative path.   After spending years in the business world and then raising a family, she decided to pursue her own artistic dreams.

Susan draws inspiration from artists skilled at combining realism with impressionism.  Her role models include artists of history Mary Cassatt and Celia Beaux as well as contemporary masters Susan Lyon and Morgan Weistling.  Susan’s technique involves the use of a palette knife for more impressionistic areas combined with brushwork in areas where more detailed realism is desired. Her palette usually consists of opposites of color combined for a variety of grays with areas of pure color.  She prefers the use of strong light and shadow to impart mood.  Through her art, Susan seeks to explore the complexities of human emotion and the subtle nuances of personal experience.

Susan lives in Weiser, Idaho, a small rural town in the American West. She is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America and a member of the American Impressionist Society.  She has been juried into several Regional and National exhibitions, including:
